GEN Case Management System

GEN – Case Management System, Web Application

The GEN Case Management System is an intranet web application tailored and built for the international forensic genealogical firm (heir hunting) GEN based in Berlin, Germany.

The Mandate

In 2015, GEN hired me to develop and design a multi-user software solution (web application) that would allow them to manage over 15 000 cases and significantly improve their workflow.

Cleaning And Reorganizing Data

The first challenge encountered was to collect and restructure the large amount of data held on various supports.

I wrote a series of scripts to read, collect and reorganize the digitalized data in one database.

Manipulating data is a sensitive task, and the process was arduous but also essential to the development of the web application.

Working closely with GEN’s CEO, I designed the database architecture and built the basic infrastructure for the system.

Built From Ground Up

I built the Gen Web Application from ground up with PHP/MySQL. All features were designed and developed expressly for the firm based on their needs.

The application facilitates the management of offices, agents, cases, partners, heirs and booked income.

User access is defined with various permission settings based on the team they belong to, and the activity is monitored with an activity-tracking feature.

A considerable amount of the development went on the Statistics Tool that allows the firm to review income and acquisitions, case progress and performance, agents’ and partners’ performance along with stuck cases that require closer attention.

Organic Design

The system was designed to remain easily expandable and new features are added regularly.
